Kenneth Branagh takes on Olivier

Kenneth Branagh takes on Olivier

Who else could possibly have taken on the mantle of Sir Laurence Olivier? Clearly, this is what the casting director of My Week with Marylin thought too as Kenneth Branagh looks to have been chosen as the obvious candidate to play the acting legend.

The film, which is reported to have Michelle Williams attached to the role of Marylin Monroe, is based on Olivier employee Colin Clark's diary, which he kept while working for the actor. In 1957, Clark was assigned to look after Monroe when she arrived in London to appear in The Prince and the Showgirl. A year later, Clark published excerpts from his recollections about the making of the film, but crucially left the week he spent locked away with the actress.

In 2002, the entries were unearthed and are now the basis for the film, which TV director Simon Curtis (David Copperfield) is fashioning into his film debut. Production Weekly (via The Playlist) is reporting that Branagh has his eye on the role. However, he may have a slight issue as Marylin's possible September shoot date is likely to clash with Marvel's Thor, but the actor will undoubtedly do everything he can to play the role of the legendary Olivier.
