Karl Urban Lording it over us as Judge Dredd

Karl Urban Lording it over us as Judge Dredd

The votes have been counted and verified, the verdict is very much in. Judge Dredd, that grouchy do-gooder lording it over the rest of us as judge, jury and executioner all rolled into one, will be making his long-overdue big screen return. The original incarnation back in 1995 may have been DOA (to put it mildly) but you can't fault it for trying especially with Sylvester Stallone hamming it up as the narked law enforcer. So who's brave enough to step into Sly's shoes?

According to Bleeding Cool, Karl Urban, last seen in Star Trek and soon to be throwing his weight about in Red and Priest, is the current front-runner, with talk even of an official announcement at Comic-Con imminently. Indeed, IGN caught up with Urban at the Con and the star hinted that he's in very early discussions to take on the lead role.

Vantage Point director Pete Travis is still down for this one and should be working from a Sunshine and 28 Days Later scribe Alex Garland so there's some serious chops behind this re-imagining!
