It's on! Del Toro's on the verge of Madness
It bl*!&y took you long enough! After much to-ing and fro-ing Guillermo del Toro, he of a thousand 'in development' projects, and he who broke countless hearts when he walked away from The Hobbit, has finally arrived At The Mountains Of Madness. Yes, it's been quite a ride this one. Since 2004, when the adaptation was first given the greenlight by DreamWorks, del Toro has been trying to free up some time to take on his passion project. And now it's on like Donkey Kong.
But what gives? Why have the studios decided to back del Toro now for his R-Rated epic? It could have a little something to do with a certain James Cameron who'll be taking up a producer's credit on the H.P. Lovecraft adap as well as lending his homebrew 3D tech to del Toro and Universal.
According to Deadline Hollywood, del Toro will dust off his copy of Mountains and start shooting next summer for a planned 2012 release.
At The Mountains Of Madness is, unashamedly, del Toro's fave read and he's penned the script himself alongside long-time collaborator Matthew Robbins (Mimic, Don't Be Afraid Of The Dark and the forthcoming The Haunted Mansion). The Hellboy director is aiming for a horrific journey into Lovecraft's Cthulhu Mythos - so expect buckets of gore and del Toro's trademark, gothic fantasy.
