Inception scores dream debut at US Box Office!
I guess this is what unanimously positive reviews, a stellar cast and a sky-high budget will do for a film; Christopher Nolan's Inception has bulldozed its way to the top of the US Box Office with a mightily impressive $60.4 million haul. Yes, there must be plenty of back-slapping going on in the Warner Bros. offices this morning upon hearing the news that Leo and pals have rewarded the studio's faith by earning a fair chunk of change after they splashed out over $150 million on Nolan's 'thriller of the mind'.
Despicable Me was the film to make way for Inception at the top spot as Steve Carell-starring animated adventure conceded the summit after one week. The Sorcerer's Apprentice, starring Nicholas Cage and Jay Baruchel, is the only other new entry this weekend and enters at three after claiming $17 million. The Twilight Saga: Eclipse is fading fast after dropping two places to four, while Toy Story 3 falls one place to five in its fifth week of release.
The comedy stylings of Adam Sandler, Chris Rock and friends earns Grown Ups the number six slot and M. Night Shyamalan's disappointingly reviewed The Last Airbender can only muster seventh place in its third week. Dropping five places to eight is Adrien Brody in Predators, while summer blockbusters Knight & Day and The Karate Kid round off the chart.
