Burton confirms the looming Monsterpocalypse

A little while back we were rubbing our perfectly manicured hands with glee when we heard that Tim Burton had been approached by Disney/DreamWorks to adapt the miniature monster-battling game Monsterpocalypse. Now, according to producer Roy Lee, it seems that Burton has accepted the challenge and will be developing the film as a potential directing project.

Lee confirmed to Slash Film that Burton has been beavering away with the film, but that there's currently no set schedule while regular collaborator John August continues to work on the script. Meanwhile, Burton is likely to complete work on current project Dark Shadows before Monsterpocalypse's expected date of delivery some time in late 2012.

Monsterpocalypse is based on Matt Wilson's game concept, which features a Godzilla-style battle of the monsters in a fictional city. An extra piece of good news for Burton fans is that Oscar-winning visual effects guru Ken Ralston is to start working on early designs for both the aliens and the robots with Burton, so we can expect yet another feast for the eyes.
