  • Mad Man Hamm to play Superman?

Mad Man Hamm to play Superman?

This story may have a strong whiff of conjecture about it but we'll go with it nonetheless. Besides with Christopher Nolan 'godfathering' (we're still not sure what that entails exactly, will he need to be present for the film's box office baptism???) and David Goyer penning the script, things are looking up for the long-mooted Superman reboot. But who's going to don those iconic red and blue tights? Well, none other than Mad Men's Don Draper, that's who!

If we're to believe reports coming out of TMT (we're a trusting bunch here) then the so-handsome-it-should-be-made-illegal Jon Hamm is the frontrunner to play the Man of Steel.

It's a good fit. Hamm's never more than a pair...

It bl*!&y took you long enough! After much to-ing and fro-ing Guillermo del Toro, he of a thousand 'in development' projects, and he who broke countless hearts when he walked away from The Hobbit, has finally arrived At The Mountains Of Madness. Yes, it's been quite a ride this one. Since 2004, when the adaptation was first given the greenlight by DreamWorks, del Toro has been trying to free up some time to take on his passion project. And now it's on like Donkey Kong.

But what gives? Why have the studios decided to back del Toro now for his R-Rated epic? It could have a little something to do with a certain James Cameron who'll be taking up a producer's credit on the H.P. Lovecraf...

Let me introduce you to the story that just won't die. Ironic considering that its inspiration should have slipped from this mortal coil some time ago. Yes, there's going to be an Ozzy Osbourne biopic and yes, Colin Farrell has reportedly agreed to star as the rock royalty buffoon.

Of course, this could all be codswallop. And most likely is. The 61-year-old Black Sabbath frontman wants to be played by an unknown from his hometown of Birmingham but according to that bastion of Hollywood news, Perez Hilton, Farrell has bagged himself the gig.

True story. But, with Nolan doing the press tour for his mind-melting espionage thriller, journos will, of course, turn the topic of conversation to a certain threequel that the director has in the pipe. Engage Cruise control…a Les Grossman Movie is incoming

Many, fairly or not, have pointed to Tom Cruise's turn as the balding, chubby-handed movie mogul Les Grossman in Tropic Thunder as his best work in years (probably those that passed on Tom's work in Collateral and War Of The Worlds). Either way, the big guy himself is starting to believe the hype and is looking to ways of bringing his comic creation to the big screen in a spin-off movie of his own.

All this comes hot on the heels of Cruise's manic cameo alongside Jennifer Lopez at the MTV Movie Awards where, rather unanimously, it's believed that Grossman stole the whole show (and that's despite Sandra Bullock dining on face with Scarlett Johansson!).

Burton to go from Wonderland to Monsterpocalypse?

Fresh from inviting us into his wildly colourful imagination in Alice In Wonderland, DreamWorks is hoping that Tim Burton can work his very unique brand of directorial magic again on an adaptation of miniatures game Monsterpocalypse.

Deadline is reporting that the project is still in its infancy and nothing has been signed as yet. Although, Matt Wilson's game concept features a Godzilla-style battle of the monsters in a fictional city, giving Burton plenty to work with should he be tempted by this sort of challenge.

However, this is still a long way off as a script hasn't even been written yet, while Burton is currently busy casting his eye over the film world's finest as a ju...

Not content with just reigning supreme in the UK, Iron Man 2 has debuted at number one in the US Box Office too. Robert Downey Jr's iron-suited superhero proved too strong for the competition, taking a whopping $133.6 million over the weekend.

But who's taking the helm? Many moons ago the destroyer of worlds, AKA Roland Emmerich (2012) was attached to direct and so too was The Fall's Tarsem Singh. These guys have since fallen by the wayside however paving the way for Paul Greengrass to step ...

Alex Pettyfer's number is up in I Am Number Four

When Michael Bay casts, he casts hard. Fact. Indeed the search for a leading man for sci-fi alien chase pic I Am Number Four has been ongoing for some time now but it would appear that producer Bay has finally got his man. Rising Brit star Alex Pettyfer, he who starred in Stormbreaker, and soon to be seen opposite Vanessa Hudgens in Beastly, will take point in the Dreamworks, Steven Spielberg-produced, D.J. Caruso-directed teen thriller.

Based on an as yet unpublished novel by James Frey and Jobie Hughes, the adaptation is being handled by Smallville creators Al Gough and Miles Millar, who should be in familiar territory here with a story about aliens who fall to Earth and must imm...

Anna Faris enlists in Private Benjamin remake

It's a little known fact that there is a well marked 'remakes' somewhere in Hollywood, and those producer types keep going back to it. In news that should surprise absolutely no one, New Line/Warner Bros. have donned the ritual blindfold, thrashed wildly in the dark and pinned their hopes on a remake of Private Benjamin.

The 1980 comedy classic, starring Goldie Hawn, saw a spoiled suburbanite enlist in the military after her husband dies mid-coitus on their wedding night...because joining up with the army is the only way around such bereavement (??). Anna Faris (Scary Movie series, Cloudy With A Chance of Meatballs) is in negotiations to star in the redo.

Smith up for more close encounters in Independence Day 2!!!

Back in 1996 a certain Mr. Roland Emmerich took great pleasure in destroying the world. Yes, who can forget his SFX bar-raiser, Independence Day. ID4 seemed to be the perfect blend of Cheese and epic Sci-Fi and turned Will Smith into a bankable AAA Lister. So Big Willie's got a lot to be grateful for and perhaps owes Emmerich 'one'. That 'one' has in fact accrued interest and become 'two' as IESB is reporting that Smith is currently locked in talks with 20th Century Fox for two back-to-back Independence Day sequels!

If negotiations go according to plan then ID4-Ever: Part I, as it's being dubbed, could shoot as early as next summer after Smith applies the final flourishes to either...

"Paranormal" frightens UK Box Office into submission

Uh-oh, the Twi-hards aren't going to like this. Their beloved trio of Edward, Bella and Jacob have fallen to the might of the low-budget horror success of the year. Yes, in its second week of release, "Paranormal Activity" claimed £1.8 million and jumped up a place to take the number one spot, while "The Twilight Saga: New Moon" fell two places to three.

Nestling snugly in between them in second place is Jim Carrrey's Scrooge in "A Christmas Carol", while the only new entry in the chart is the disposable animated alien comedy "Planet 51" at four. "Law Abiding Citizen" toed the line to stay in fifth place for a second week.

Four weeks in and the end of the world is starting t...

New writers on the QT for "Deadpool"?

As we approach the end of the year it becomes a time for reflection. And we can all, rather safely, reflect on the fact that "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" was somewhat of a damp squib. In terms of Box Office clout, the Adamantium-clawed mutant still had the wherewithal to be mixing it with the big boys but critically...well, the less said the better. Perhaps the only good thing to come out of Wolverine was Ryan Reynolds and his turn as the Merc With The Mouth, AKA Deadpool. Certainly the studio bods over at Fox seemed to think so too as they plan to fast-track a standalone adventure for the mercenary.

According to our good friends over at Chud, Fox may be looking to hire the writers of...

Bullock bests "New Moon" with her "Blind Side"

These past three weeks have certainly been marked by a two-man tussle at the summit of the Chart. Having managed to claim the top spot for the last two weeks, "The Twilight Saga: New Moon" has been eclipsed this time around by the unassuming Sandra Bullock and her true-life American Football tale, "The Blind Side". This Gridiron gangbuster took a further $20 million to cement its place as the Chart's champion.

It was slim pickings though for the rest of the also-rans with "Brothers" claiming the highest new entry this week. The Tobey Maguire, Natalie Portman and Jake Gyllenhaal-starring drama took a modest $9.7 million to bag bronze. Climbing one spot to number 4, and no ...

Summit Entertainment ("The Twilight Saga") sure do like those toothy, undead types. With Robert Pattinson and co. currently bathing in tubs of gold, the studio have been eyeing up other vampire-themed properties to unleash upon the masses. And so it goes that "Vlad", a reversioning of the Dracula myth, is getting the green light!

The Hollywood Reporter's Heat Vision Blog suggests that the original IP, penned by "Sons of Anarchy" star Charlie Hunnam, is even attracting the interest of a certain Brad Pitt and his Plan B production company.

The studio is already in negotiations with music video hotshot and photographer Anthony Mandler to direct.

"Entourage" is certainly a rarity in the TV schedules. It's a series that actually seems to get better as it goes along and now, word has it, we may even see a big screen outing for the boys! Mark Wahlberg, who executive produces HBO's hit show was asked about the possibility of a movie based on Ari Gold and co's antics.

Wahlberg, currently doing the business in Peter Jackson's "The Lovely Bones", told The Hollywood Reporter that he believes there are two more seasons left in the show. "We'll see; there could be more. But then, a movie."

It may not be splashed across the front pages but the news that director Paul Greengrass has walked away from "Bourne 4" has really shaken the once rock solid series to its core. The man behind "The Bourne Supremacy" and "The Bourne Ultimatum" issued the following statement late last night; "My decision to not return a third time as director is simply about feeling the call for a different challenge. There's been no disagreement with Universal Pictures. The opportunity to work with the Bourne family again is a difficult thing to pass up, but we have discussed this together and they have been incredibly understanding and supportive."

Variety has broken the news that zom-com "Zombieland", having bagged itself $85 million worldwide, will be granted the sequel treatment by Sony Pictures.

"Everyone had fun watching (the first) 'Zombieland'; making it a more visceral experience can only make it better," said the film's producer Gavin Polone. "I don't think you want to see 'Ordinary People' in 3-D. But 'Zombieland' is clearly one movie that will benefit from (the technique)." Yes, as is evident by this excitable rant from Producer Man, the second chapter of the Woody Harrelson-starring rib-tickler will be jumping off the screens in 3D.

"New Moon" beats "Paranormal" at UK Box Office

It was a straight fight between demons and vampires at the UK Box Office this weekend with the fanged bloodsuckers coming out on top. Yes, "The Twilight Saga: New Moon" beat off some worthy competition in the shape of former US number one "Paranormal Activity" to take the top spot for a second week, claiming a £4.3 million haul over the weekend.

"Paranormal Activity", the low-budget horror about a couple who believe their house is possessed by a demon, debuted in the runners-up spot, pocketing an impressive £3.5 million - not bad for a film made for a reported $15,000. Meanwhile, "A Christmas Carol", featuring the vocal talents of Jim Carrey, was a non-mover at three.
